The BRP CanAm Series rolled into MCR for the first of three visits in 2007 and the annual Brock Young Memorial was center stage for the evening's program.  The traditional $1422 to win event brought thirty-six racers from two states and Ontario, Canada.  Larry Knowles of Painted Post, NY went home a lot happier with the his third BRP CanAm Series win of 2007.  John Haggerty and Travis Asel returned to MCR victory lane in their respective divisions for the first time in many years on  Close Racing Supply, Close Lumber, Otis Eastern Services CanAm night.

Hometown driver, Steve Dixon and Knowles paced the twenty-six car field to Tony VanPelt's green flag and Dixon shot into the lead over Knowles with Tim Peterson, Jeremy Wonderling and Bruce Miller in tow.  Mr. Excitement, moved into third on the second lap.  Tom Schnars spun in turn three on the third lap to bring out the first yellow. On the restart Dixon shot out in front again and as lap four clicked off, Bruce Miller was now in fourth and Todd Hansen was sitting fifth. Knowles was working the high side on Dixon and on lap six, the trio of Dixon, Knowles and Wonderling raced off turn 2 three wide for the lead as lap seven clicked off, the yellow came out for the tenth place running Jim Johnson who spun in turn one.  Knowles would use the outside groove on the restart and get around Dixon as they raced out of turn two to grab the top spot.  As lap ten clicked off it was Knowles, Dixon, Wonderling Miller and Hanson.  Randy Hall and Rich Michael had worked their way to sixth and seventh from their twelfth and twenty-second starting positions.  By lap twelve, Knowles had six car lengths on Dixon and as the halfway mark approached for the thirty lap event, Knowles was still leading over Dixon, Wonderling, Bruce Miller, Hansen, Hall, Michael, point leader, Jeff Chesebro, Paul Grigsby and Dave Miller.

Lap traffic was now becoming a factor as Knowles has getting thru it well and opened a comfortable lead over Dixon, Wonderling, Miller and now Hall was in fifth.  As lap twenty clicked off Dixon was still after Knowles, yellow #4 machine and Hall seemed to be coming fast on Miller and Wonderling while Knowles had built a commanding lead over Wonderling who was working the lap traffic that Knowles had cleared earlier. As the five to go signal was given, it was now Knowles being held up with the thick lap traffic and this allowed the MCR regular, Dixon close in on Knowles, when Jeremy Wonderling would spin in turn two ruining his chance at a great finish.  Hall was now fourth and Rich Michael was now fifth coming from that twenty-second starting spot.  As the final two laps clicked off, Dixon tried to catch Knowles but fell a few car lengths short as Knowles would pick up the fiftieth event in BRP CanAm Series history and also a cool $1422 in cash in memory of Brock Young.  Knowles was followed by Dixon, Bruce Miller, Hall, Jeff Chesebro slipped into fifth in the final two laps.  The second five were Paul Grigsby, Rich Michael, Dave Miller, Bob Buono and Mike Williams rounding out the top five.  Heat winners for the BRP Can Am Series were: Dixon, Hall, Donnie Smith, Hansen, while Donnie Cobb and Michael won the B-mains.

The MAYNARD's Electric FASTRAK Late Models had their largest field of the season for a regular show as nineteen cars took the initial start with Jon Law out gunning John Haggerty into turn one.  Jim Frank would be your second place car as lap one was completed and the two #14's went at it with Law using the outside groove and Frank down low.  As lap five clicked off the board, veteran John Haggerty was now in second with Frank in third followed by Steve Hollabaugh and newcomer in the FASTRAK ranks, Randy Hall sitting fifth.  Law had built a ten car length lead over Haggerty and was looking to run away from the field.  As lap ten was scored, Haggerty had closed in by a car length off the back bumper of Laws black #14 Rayburn chassis when the yellow flew for the cars of Joe Watson and Bob Kish in turn three. On the restart it was Law with a great start and Jim Frank getting back by Haggerty for second, but only to see one lap get in when the yellow came out again for Watson and now Chris Knuth in the #123 machine.  The field restarted and Law again got a nice little jump over Frank, but it was Haggerty sliding into second and two laps later, Haggerty put his familiar blue and yellow #49 to the front of the field with a turn four pass.  As ten to go was signaled, it was Haggerty, Law, Frank, Hollabaugh and Hall still running very well in fifth.  As lap eighteen was scored, point leader, John Lacki worked his way to fifth from ninth as Kyle drum kicked Hall back to seventh.  Haggerty had built a ten car length lead over Law and was looking to run away and hide.  Haggerty did just that over the final five laps as he won easily over Law, Jim Frank, Hollabaugh, Lack, Drum, Hall, Greg Oakes, Mike Wonderling and Tom Kemp.  Haggerty's win was his first win at MCR since 1994!  Heat winners were: Lack, Hall and Law.

The NE Micro Mini Stocks rolled onto the racing facility with one time winner, Brad Ullman and David Lowe Jr. on the front row.  Ullman immediately took off as fourth place starter, Daniel Cunningham slid up to second as lap two was completed. Sixth place starter, Steve Mowery climbed into the runner up spot on lap three and set sights on Ullman.  The very next pack, point leader, Dave Burdick came into play as he was nipping on the rear quarter panel of Mowery as the top four cars of Ullman, Burdick Mowery, Cunningham were tightly packed with previous week's winner Norm Varner catching the top four.  The top five stayed the same as Varner was working the low line on Cunningham running door to door for laps eleven thru thirteen.  Burdick would swoop by Mowery for second with two to go, but Ullman was able to withstand the late charge and pick up his second win of the season over Burdick, Mowery, Cunningham and Varner rounded out the top five. They were followed by Levi Watson, Jeff Buhl, Matt Ball , Amanda Close and Damien Bidwell.  Heats were won by Ullman and Mowery.

The Jerge's Scrap Metal Street Stocks rolled onto the 1/3 mile speed plant with Jeff Hellwig and Dennis Asel leading the abbreviated sixteen car field for twenty green flag laps.  Asel would use the outside lane to edge ahead of Hellwig after lap one as sixth place starter, Andy Michael was quickly in third.  Michael would move to the runner up spot by edging by Hellwig at finish lane for third as the trio of Asel, Michael and Hellwig were three wide at times for the lead.  Hellwig would be credited for the lead on lap six as the trio still went at it three wide with Damon Lewis, Derrick Frances, Justin Tatlow and point leader Chris Austin sitting back watching the great battle in front of them.  As the halfway point of the event was
shown to the leaders, Hellwig had a couple car lengths over the foursome of Michael, Asel, Tatlow and Lewis as they were separated by only two car lengths.  Tatlow made his move for third on lap eleven and on the very next lap found a ton of forward bite on the bottom of the track to leap his way into the lead over Hellwig and Michael.  As lap thirteen was put in the books, Leon Gardner spun his green #82 machine in turn two and this allowed the field to get on the back bumper of Tatlow for the restart.  Damon Lewis went into the pits relinquishing fourth position, which was now inherited by Asel and Frances in fifth followed by Rich Hemphill, Jeff Chesebro filling in for Ken Shelley, who had to go to work was now seventh after starting lead last.

Tatlow restarted the event an just walked away from the field. With two to go, Tatlow had opened up a straightaway lead over Michael as the battle on the track was for fifth between the cars of Asel, Frances, Chesebro and Austin as they all battled for the fifth position.  At the finish it was Tatlow winning his second in a row at MCR and becoming the first repeat winner of the season in the Jerge's Street Stock division.  Andy Michael, Hellwig, Rich Hemphill Dennis Asel rounded out the top five.  Those five were followed by Derrick Frances, Chesebro in the Ken Shelley machine, point leader Chris Austin, Brad Bigley and Damon Lewis rebounded to finish tenth. Heat winners were: Shelley and Michael.

The Emods finished the Close Racing Supply, Close Lumber, Otis Eastern Services night of events with Travis Asel and John Woodward  on the front row.  Both racers looking for their first win of the 2007 season and Asel was determined right from the start to have it.  He would lead lap one over Woodward and Darren Tarabori.  As lap two was completed, the car of Joe Skinner spun in turn one to bring out the first yellow.  Asel would again restart the field and this time Woodward and Tarabori stayed within three car lengths of the leader.  As the halfway mark approached, Asel was still on top leading over the Woodward and Tarabori, with Damon Lewis and Vic Vena sitting there in fifth as the yellow flew again on lap eleven for the cars of Kyle Bedell and Tim Peterson in turn two.  As the field restarted, Vic Vena decided to try the outside and it allowed him to move into fourth ahead of Damon Lewis as Rich Michael was now up to sixth.  Michael continued his charge as on lap fourteen he climbed into the top five as Lewis fell to sixth ahead of Kyle Bedell.  Vena continued his charge as he was all over the #6 of Tarabori and with two to go Asel had built a comfortable ten car length lead over Woodward and easily win his first MCR win since 2000. Woodward would finish second followed by Tarabori who had won the night before at Freedom Raceway.  Vic Vena and Rich Michael rounded out the top five while, Kyle Bedell, Damon Lewis, Carl Samuelson, Kevin Kohl and Tim Peterson completed the top ten.

FANS are reminded that MCR will be running the next two Thursday nights.  This Thursday night will be the "Don Raabe Big 30" PREVIEW NIGHT as it will be a regular card of racing for the Maynard's Electric FASTRAK Late Models, Wimpy's Place Super Stocks, Emods, Jerge's Street Stocks and NE Micro Mini Stocks.  The following Thursday, August 2nd, the ULMS late models return for their final tune for the big FALL CLASSIC weekend in September.  The Stephanie Eckl Memorial will pay $2000 to win.
