McKean County Raceway hosted their first THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER
program and it featured the first super dirt late model event of
season. The United Late Model Series rolled into MCR for the first
time since last falls FALL CLASSIC and the crowd was greeted by
clear blue skies and thirty-one of the finest dirt late models in
Northeast on Southeastern Transmissions of Olean, NY night.
The ULMS late models rolled onto the facility for the 30 lap $2000
to win Nancy Bly Memorial. Ward Schell was sitting on the point due
to his JB Distributing / Coors Light Redraw. Schell had Jeff Hoffman
sitting on the outside of him as the duo took ULMS starter, Tony Van
Pelts initial green flag and led the thundering herd of 24 ULMS
super late models into turn one. This is where the thundering herd
started scrambling as Schell looped his #61s in front of the entire
field. A massive five-car pile up resulted with Todd Andrews finding
his car sitting on top of the #61 machine. Boom Briggs, Luke
Hoffner, Dave Hess was also involved. Everyone was done for the
evening except for Hoffner who came back on the track several laps
down.

Once the line up reset by the track
officials as the entire inside row except for David Scott,
who started third was lost due to the first lap mishap. Jeff
Hoffman now was your point leader and David Scott was on the
outside of row one. Hoffman and Scott roared down the front
stretch on the start. Scott got ahead of Hoffman as they
raced down the backstretch and as lap one was completed it
was Scott, Hoffman and Bob Close in third. Close would move
into second with a inside move in turn 3 on Hoffman on lap
three and would set chase for Slowride. Lap seven saw the
#33 of Chris Hackett go pit side as he was in the top ten. A
yellow came out on lap eight for debris in turn 4 and this
would allow a double file restart. Scott chose the outside
lane over Close and they took off, but Scott would get
himself ahead of Close as they came out of turn 2. Kirk
Bradley would take third from Hoffman on lap nine as Chad
Valone and Dick Barton were waging battle for fifth. As lap
ten clicked off the board, Barton had disposed of Valone for
fifth and on the very next lap the black #28B Bolt Place
Ford was in third. Bradley would reclaim third from Barton
on lap thirteen as the two were waging a great battle |

behind
the leaders. As the halfway point crossed it was still Scott over
Close and Bradley was now closing in on the top two. Lap seventeen
saw the last yellow for Rick Isadore who was tagged in the rear as
he was in a tight four car battle for seventh. Isadore would put his
car into pits same for Brent Rhebergan. Scott took off on the single
file restart and would just leave the field in his wake. Slowride
wasn't in a Slowride machine. The battle now was for third between
Bradley and Barton as the duo had been running a great race all
night long and at the checkers it was David Scott picking up his
second win of the year on the ULMS tour and his fifth all-time ULMS
win. Close, the 2006 ULMS champion was second and the King Dick
Barton made the outside pass on Kirk Bradley in turn four to steal
third from the 5B of Bradley. Chad Valone came home fifth.

The Wimpy's Place Super Stocks saw the
ageless one, Ron Baker on the point with defending track
champion, Randy Hall sitting next to him. Baker, would take
the initial lead over Hall and was having a great run
keeping Hall behind him. Rich Thornton was sitting third
chasing the top two. As the halfway point reached it was
still Baker leading the field and Hall was now receiving
pressure from Rich Michael. Michael would get by Hall for
second on lap thirteen and had his eyes set on Baker for the
lead. Lap sixteen would see Michael get around Baker to take
over the top spot and now Hall was looking to get by the
ageless veteran of Ron Baker and finally did as the yellow
would come out with two to go setting up a mad two lap dash
for the win. Michael took off and Hall was right there
looking for the win, but Michael would grab win number two
for the year over Hall and Dan Cobb who got by Baker on the
final lap to grab third, Baker was fourth and Rich Thornton
was fifth. |

The Emods were the second highlight of the evenings program as the
makeup Fuzzy Mader Memorial was held with a $1,000.00 going to the
winner. Ed Carley was on the front row making a rare appearance at
MCR and Dave Hess brought his Emod along with his ULMS late model as
well. The duo shot down the homestretch on the opening lap, but it
was fourth place starter and perennial Emod star, Randy Hall going
around both drivers and leading lap number one over Hess and Hall.
As lap five clicked off it was Hall, Hess, Carley, outsider, Mike
Samuelson and Tim Peterson your top five. John Woodward Jr. would
crack the top five on lap eight from his seventh place starting
spot. As the halfway mark of the event went by, the top five were
still Hall, Hess, Carley, Samuelson and Woodward. Lap nineteen would
see yellow come out for point leader Vic Vena and Jeremy Ensell. Lap
twenty would see another yellow for Dennis Lunger and the cars of
Kyle Bedell, Dave Lyon and Travis Asel going pitside for the
evening. Hall got a good jump on the restart and Nathan Short would
grab fourth from Samuelson as the field got the twp to go signal,
Samuelson would grab fourth back from Short. Hall would sped across
the double checkers and take home the $1000 first place prize money
and the Fuzzy Mader Memorial over Hess, Carley, Samuelson and Nathan
Short.

The Jerge's Used Auto Parts Street Stocks
have been the most competitive division all year and finally
defending champion, Andy Michael would end his string of bad
luck at MCR and find victory lane. Lance Palmer and Michael
would bring the field of 26 street stocks down the
homestretch for the go flag and it was Michael in his #17x
jumping out ahead of Palmer. Rich Hemphill, Derrick Frances
and Jason Schoonmaker rounded out the top five on the
opening lap as it finished under the yellow. Michael again
would jump into the lead over Palmer and now Brett Smith
would come sixth to third as point leader Chris Austin
climbed into the top five. As lap five clicked off, Austin
had moved into third. As the halfway mark clicked off the
board, Austin was now second behind Michael. Palmer would
retake second from Austin with six to go and Frances would
kick the point leader Austin back to fourth one lap later.
With two to go Austin would regain third back from Frances
as Michael zoomed to his first MCR win of 2007. Michael was
followed by Palmer, Austin, Frances and Brett Smith. |

The NE Micro Mini Stocks rounded out the Southeastern Transmission
Thursday Night Thunder program. Tyler Carlin and Dave Lowe Sr. lead
the seventeen car field to the initial green. Carlin got the speed
and the lead over Lowe. The point leaders, Steve Mowery and Dave
Burdick were working their way up thru the field Mowery was already
fifth on the second lap after starting ninth. His luck ran out as
the field took lap three when he lost his right front tire, bringing
out the yellow. Carlin again took over the lead but the new
challenge was Brad Ullman, who making his first start of the year,
as he would
take over the lead on lap six as he was charging from the eleventh
starting spot. Lowe would take over second on lap eight as his son
would be sitting fourth ahead of Ben Rothermel. At the finish it was
Ullman winning by a huge margin over Tyler Carlin, Dave Lowe Sr,
Dave Lowe Jr. and Ben Rothermel.
MCR will be back in action next Saturday night as the Maynard's
Electric FASTRAK Northeast Regional Series come into MCR. A full
field of FASTRAK late models are expected from New York,
Pennsylvania and Ohio as they will be vying for the $1500 to win
prize money. The NE Micro Mini Stocks will be running a special $250
to win event. All this along with the Wimpy's Place Super Stocks,
Emods and Jerge's Street Stocks on Larry's Sport Center Presents
"Harley Night".
