Mike Pegher Jr of Cranberry, Twp, PA captured the FASTRAK Northeast
Regional, USMC Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial at McKean County
Raceway last night. The win was worth $1200 as he defeated
Smethport native, Steve Dixon. In other action, Randy Hall picked
up the United Emod Series win with a late race pass over Al Brewer
and held off Vic Vena for his second UEMS win of the year. Josh
Wilcox won the Tireman Street Stock Memorial and Larry Mitchell
captured the mini stock feature.
The Jerry Irons “Tireman” Memorial was the first event of the
evening for the street stock division with Ted Mascho taking the
early lead over Josh Wilcox and Bruno Mowery. Wilcox took over the
lead on lap four. Critter Hemphill would move into the top five on
lap six and would move Andy Michael back to fifth on lap ten. Wilcox
would start lapping the field around lap fifteen and on lap 18
Hemphill would get into the car of Mascho and would receive the
black flag ending his strong bid for the win. On the restart Wilcox
would have the cars of Bruno Mowery and Andy Michael on his rear
bumper but Wilcox is able to hold off for the win over Andy Michael
who got around Mowery on the white flag lap for second. Levi Watson
was third followed by Dan Giboo and Butch Talbot in fifth.
The Northeast FASTRAK Regional Late Model Series rolled onto the
3/8 mile speed plant with Mike Pegher Jr and hometown favorite,
Steve Dixon on the front row. Dixon would take the immediate lead
over Pegher with Kyle Zimmerman following. The first yellow would
fly on lap three and on the restart; Pegher would take the lead over
Dixon with defending series champion, Max Blair now slipping into
third. With ten laps down, Pegher was still at the point over
Dixon, Blair, Butch Lambert and Joe Martin rounding out the top
five. The yellow would come out on lap fifteen for several cars and
the top four running order was still the same with Josh Holtgraver
now in fifth and TJ Downs having a stellar run in sixth. Pegher
would survive a few more cautions and would capture the 25 lap USMC
Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial over Dixon, Blair, Lambert and Dan
Angelicchio.
The United Emod Series made their first visit of the year to MCR.
Veteran, Al Brewer and Vic Vena paced the field to John Powell’s
green flag with Brewer powering into the lead at the start. With
the first lap completed the first yellow would come out as point
leader, Joel Watson would get loose in turn one and get collected by
Tim Walden and Friday night UEMS winner, Jack Young. Young would
make it back on the track in time as the event was restarted before
Watson was able to make it back to the lineup. Brewer again powered
away from Vena as Randy Hall would slip by the 01 of Vena for
second. Hall would take chase of Brewer in his familiar #71
machine. At the halfway point, Hall and Brewer had the fans on
their feet while Vena, Bob Close and Kyle Inman were chasing the
duo. The lead duo started enter lap traffic around lap fifteen as
Hall closed in and got under Brewer, but it was the ageless veteran
keeping the point. Lap nineteen would see the second yellow of the
event for Young as he stopped on the backstretch. Brewer would take
the inside lane on the double file restart and pulled away from
Hall. Close would now slide Vena back to fourth with Butch
Southwell now in fifth. All eyes were on the top two still as Hall
kept his potent #10 on the inside as Brewer was using the outside
groove. On lap 23, Brewer would slide high coming out of turn two
to allow Hall to pull beside him going into turn three where the two
made contact and Hall inheriting the lead with Brewer sliding back
to fourth behind Vena and Close. As the four drivers took the white
flag, Vena dove under Hall for his bid to lead and now Hall and Vena
raced door to door for the win with Brewer and Close doing the same
for third. Hall would hold off Vena at the line for the win. Close
edged a disappointed Brewer for third with Craig Bedell finishing
fifth from his 16th starting spot.
The mini stocks would end the evening for their fifteen lap finale.
The Babcock’s of Kyle and Kurt would lead the twelve car field to
the green with Kyle grabbing the lead on lap one only to see CJ
Irons take the lead on lap two, but on lap later is was eighth place
starter, Nick Snayzak your new leader. The action was hot for the
fans, but it got more exciting on lap five as seventh place starter
Larry Mitchell became the fourth different leader in the first five
laps. Rookie, Ryan Burke saw his first event come to halt as the
young Olean driver rolled his machine over in turn two. Mitchell
would restart the event over Snayzak and would lead the remainder of
the event over Snayzak, CJ Irons, defending track champion Brad
Ullman and Rick Bump.
McKean County Raceway would be back in action on Thursday, June 30
with the Ned Gleason Memorial for the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late
